Experience and Dedication: 1. HOPE Mentoring Scheme: Tutored a P2 student in Mathematics and English, who initially failed all his class quizzes and previously had very weak foundations and was not able to spell and read for English and was also unable to add and subtract one-digit numbers for Mathematics. Hence, we could not even use the past year's papers to practise as he was unable to do them. I decided to use different methods such as showing him phonics videos to hone his blending skills as well as creating my own worksheets that better suited his needs. Eventually, after half a year, he was able to read a paragraph and was also able to more easily subtract and add numbers of up to 3 digits, and began to pass his class quizzes. 2. Lakeside Family Services - We Can Read! Currently volunteering as a mentor to a P2 student in phonics, English and reading. Classes are usually shorter than normal, 45 minutes and include not only watching word families videos or silent letter families but also reading sight words, high-frequency word books, decodable books and levelled books to further hone their reading abilities. He is now able to read paragraphs more fluently using the blending skill and has improved tremendously from when I started mentoring him.
