Experience and Dedication: I am a former MOE teacher with 18 years of full time teaching experience to date since 2006, having taught in 3 different MOE schools. Frustrated by the low salary and knowing that I deserve better, I resigned to work full time as a home based tutor since 2011. Almost my entire clientele base is made up of people who are busy in their own careers and hence, they share the same desire to outsource their child's learning to a one stop trusted party. They are mainly upper class as evident by their residence type (14.8% HDB, 22.7% Condo/Apartment, 62.5% Landed).
I specialize in providing a complete suite of Math/Science tutoring, which means my client do not have to engage anyone else for their child from PSLE, GCE 'O' Level all the way to GCE 'A' Level, IB for both Science and Mathematics, even if their child has special needs, e.g. Autistic, Dyslexic, Anger Management Issue, Strong Sensitivity to Light, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I do not only teach, I motivate students by linking what they are learning to what they experience in their daily lives so they can "see the light".
I believe I am the only tutor in Singapore that provide each and every one of my students with a set of unique, carefully handwritten study notes which are produced entirely during lesson time. The notes would be based on the school classroom pace and cater to the student's weaknesses, containing only what the student requires to score well for his tests and examinations. It would not contain those topics that the individual student understands or has already mastered and thus, saving the student plenty of time and effort. Note that my study notes for every student are different. As a result, my students do not need to refer to their school notes and even text books as they would just study whatever I had designed for them. From my experience, very few students are actually aware of what they know or do not know. Hence, during the very first lesson, I would assess the student based on his most recent school results to find out exactly what he knows or not know, so I do not waste time teaching something he already know. After this is done, I would then zoom in on what the student does not understand and help him to overcome his weakness, starting right from the first lesson.
The majority of my clients engaged me to teach 4 subjects simultaneously; namely E/A Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, which is the most popular subject combination for Upper Secondary students. As I am doing this full time, I would be able to commit long term, i.e. if the child is in Sec 1 now, I would be able to provide tuition for the next 6 years. Note I have not miss a single lesson since 2006! I am able to accommodate various forms of special requests, examples are overnight sessions during examination periods, 6 hour long lessons, sessions during public holidays like Lunar New Year and even 4am classes!
I am a Male Chinese, early 40s, graduated with a BSc (Merit) Science from NUS and a Postgraduate Diploma from NIE. Do note that for the first lesson, I would be bringing along the original certificates of my education in NUS and NIE, and MOE awards I had received when I was a school teacher.
