Experience and Dedication: I believe that having the credentials is not a sufficient indicator of capability of a tutor – good grades do not translate to good teaching. So while I do possess the relevant grades to back my expertise in the subjects I wish to teach, I think it is more important that tutors understand how and why their tutees are struggling with certain concepts or subjects. I was not always a very good student – coming from a neighbourhood school, I was used to failing my examinations and never thought I could be knowledgeable enough to academically help someone. However, I managed to find joy in the learning process and learnt how to tackle specific weaknesses I was facing instead of following the oft-repeated advice to "drill assessment books". I believe I am capable of identifying the more intricate issues that my tutees are facing, beyond just "getting bad grades". Just like how I found studying methods which worked for me despite having been resigned to the thought that I was "forever stupid", I wish to walk struggling students through their problems and help them tackle them in a systematic and fun manner. I am willing to go the extra mile to provide extensive and palatable learning material so as to help my tutees feel less intimidated when approaching the subject, and to lessen their workload.
