Experience and Dedication: As a volunteer at Mountbatten Vocational School, I am teaching special needs students basic knowledge in English and Chinese as well as important life skills. My beneficiaries include youths aged 17-21 with ASD, down syndrome, as well as slow learners. When dealing with slow learners, I always make sure to explain concepts to them in a slow, concise manner that caters to their needs. I follow their pace and give them the time they need to internalise new knowledge. When it comes to this, patience is definitely the most crucial skill. When interacting with persons with ASD and down syndrome, I always make sure to phrase new concepts in a way that best caters to them and I try my best to understand what works with them. I feel that every one of them has a unique work style, and learning to accommodate their work style is key to a fruitful education. As a volunteer at Kidslearn, I taught children English reading and phonics to build up their foundation in English and prepare them for the future. I do my best to clarify doubts in a clear way that is understandable for the children, and often get good feedback from their parents.
