Experience and Dedication: Teaching experience: I am currently tutoring a 9 year old Mainland Chinese student in English. I was a part time tutor at Edufirst Learning Centre in 2021 where I taught Mathematics and English at kindergarten level to 2 students and Mathematics at P3 level to 1 student. During the same period, I was a part time student care teacher where I guided upper primary students in their homework and provided basic tutoring with assessment book enrichment across all subjects. In 2023, I was a volunteer tutor under Riverlife Community Services where I provided weekly tuition lessons for upper primary English and Mathematics on Zoom. In 2018, I worked part time as a childcare teacher for nursery and kindergarten students at Al Nasry Kindergarten. Teaching methods: I taught preschool math and english for a few months in 2021, in a tuition centre setting, with 2 children. based on my experience teaching at the preschool level, preschoolers learn best through active exploration and hands-on activities. these can include using physical manipulatives and everyday objects such as stickers. math and english-themed games can be used as well. these tangible tools help children grasp abstract concepts while also keeping them engaged. to engage young minds, visual aids and interactive charts are used, and songs and rhymes or books or even movement activities should be incorporated too. but of course, every child is different and i will cater according to whether the child is an auditory, visual or kinaesthetic learner. additionally, rewards are important for encouraging children and would be incorporated. furthermore, communication with the parents is important as it would help me in understanding the child especially in the beginning and i believe that keeping a feedback loop and open communication with the parents is crucial for the child’s development and learning. at the end of the day, for children, inculcating a love for numbers and language and confidence rather than rote learning is important to encourage long term learning.
