Gender: Female Tutor
Qualification: University
Name of the University: NUS
Qualification Achieved in which Major: Math
Grades: Nil
Graduated Year: 2001
Type of Tutor: Ex-MOE Teacher
Experience (in year): More to 10 years
Experience and Dedication: * Former NIE-trained MOE school teacher with over 26 years of teaching experience, including more than 20 years teaching graduating O-Level classes in a tuition centre.
* Highly patient and adaptable, particularly experienced in helping academically weaker students. I believe that when a student struggles to understand a concept, the teaching approach needs to change rather than simply repeating the same explanation.
* Able to quickly identify students' misconceptions and rectify them on the spot using appropriate teaching techniques and alternative explanations, preventing misunderstandings from becoming ingrained.
* For students who are not scoring well, my priority is to identify the root causes of their difficulties, address gaps in foundational knowledge and progressively rebuild their understanding and confidence before introducing more challenging examination questions.
* Personally developed a comprehensive set of carefully crafted A-Math notes and worksheets covering all chapters, refined over 20 years of teaching to strengthen conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills and examination techniques.
* Commonly challenging A-Math topics such as Binomial Theorem, Circles, Trigonometric Proofs, Equations and Inequalities (particularly questions involving the discriminant) are systematically addressed through my comprehensive notes and worksheets. These materials cover an extensive range of question types and variations in depth, helping students recognise patterns and master appropriate techniques.
* Lessons conducted using a Microsoft Surface Pro and Projector, incorporating strong visual aids and colour-coded explanations to highlight key words, question patterns, important concepts and mathematical techniques. This visual approach helps students identify crucial information, grasp complex concepts more easily and retain what they have learnt, particularly benefiting students who struggle with conventional teaching methods.
* Strong emphasis on teaching students to recognise key words, identify recurring question patterns and apply the appropriate techniques, rather than simply memorising solutions. My aim is to equip students with the skills to tackle unfamiliar examination questions independently.
* Firm belief that A-Math is largely a subject of techniques and pattern recognition. With systematic guidance, consistent practice and determination, even students currently scoring F9 have the potential to achieve an A.
* Adopt a patient, understanding and encouraging teaching approach, particularly towards students who struggle academically or lack confidence. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their difficulties without fear of being judged or reprimanded. Rather than placing unnecessary pressure on students, I focus on understanding their learning difficulties and guiding them progressively towards improvement.
* Parents are welcome to sit in during lessons to observe my teaching approach and gain a better understanding of the concepts and techniques being taught. This also allows parents to better support their child's learning and progress at home.
* Testimonials and reviews from past students and parents available upon request.
